Help · step by step
How to use
bitCaller.
Add your SIP account, set up numbers and learn how the app works.
First run
Follow First run & permissions for illustrated instructions on the microphone, notifications, battery and lock screen.
- Install the APK.
- Open bitCaller and read the privacy policy.
- Add your SIP account using a setup code or enter the details manually.
- Allow microphone access and notifications when Android asks. Contact access is optional.
- Check the account’s registration status. Calls require an Internet connection and an active service from your provider.
Setup codes and QR
Your provider can send a link or QR code containing account settings, for a predefined profile or another SIP provider. It may contain a password: treat it as an account credential. Setup links use bitcaller.pl; the setup page is in Polish.
- Scan the QR with your phone’s camera or open the link.
- If a web page opens, choose the button to open the configuration in bitCaller.
- Check the provider profile, server, port, username and other settings. For a managed account, also read the information about the hidden password and recording policy.
- For a new account, enter the password if the code does not include it, then save and register. For a saved account, review and confirm the changes. Opening a code does not save anything; you can cancel.
- Delete the message and QR when you no longer need them. If you received a visible initial password, change it with your provider and in the app as instructed by the provider.
Codes with a SIP server and recording policy require the current version of bitCaller. Older codes remain supported.
When you open the link, the data after # is not sent to the website server. Separately, the provider’s panel stores the settings and an encrypted copy of the password supplied when generating the code. A standard code does not encrypt the password; a managed account uses an encrypted block. In either case, the full link may remain in browser history or messages. Share it only with the intended recipient.
Add an account manually
- Open account settings and add an account. Select the profile for another provider, or the predefined profile if it matches your service.
- Enter the SIP username and password from your provider. These may differ from the login for your provider’s customer panel.
- For another provider, enter the SIP server and port specified by the service. The predefined profile has a preset server.
- Give the account a clear name. The predefined profile also supports an extension and DDI numbers.
- Save and register the account. Check its status and which account is selected for outgoing calls.
See the FAQ for technical requirements. You can use your existing SIP provider.
Extensions and DDI numbers
The following team and recording features apply to the predefined profile. The current tested provider is otoTelefon; its profile offers SIP ports 5060 and 6060.
Enter the extension as configured by your provider, keeping any leading zeros.
In the section for your numbers, add and name the public numbers assigned to the account, such as Reception or Office. This lets you identify which number was called. The main number is used for calls via the public number. DDI must also be enabled in the provider’s customer panel, in the SIP account settings.
After saving, check each number individually. Verification may place a short call to your number, and provider charges may apply. A setup code can carry up to 10 named numbers.
Team calls and transfers
The colleague list and extensions make it easier to call your team. Discovering colleagues on the local network requires the same Wi-Fi network.
During a call, select a blind transfer to pass it on directly, or an attended transfer to speak to the recipient first. Choose the destination and follow the screen. Transfer availability and behaviour also depend on your provider’s configuration and services.
Recording
Recording to your phone is available immediately and without an expiry date on the predefined profile. No unlock code is needed. Automatic recording is off by default.
- Use the record control during a call to save it.
- To record automatically, enable the option in the recording section of Settings. It applies to accounts with recording enabled.
- Open a recording in call history to play it, delete it or save a copy.
For a managed account, the provider can disable recording or set an end date. The date is shown in the app and applies until the end of that day in UTC. After that, new manual and automatic recordings are disabled. Existing recordings remain available to play, copy and delete.
Managed accounts with a hidden password
A provider can supply a code that sets the password without showing it to the user. You can review the other account settings before confirming. The password also stays hidden when editing the account; a new code from the provider is needed to change it.
Recording can only be disabled or limited to a date on a managed account with a hidden password. This policy forms part of the encrypted configuration and is shown before you save it. Ask your provider for updated settings.
Availability and everyday calls
Do not disturb silences bitCaller’s ringtone, vibration and pop-up notifications. You can still answer from a silent notification. In account settings, choose whether a second call gets a busy signal or triggers a notification. With notifications enabled, you can reject the second call or end the current call and answer it.
Call history stays on your phone. With contact permission, caller names are displayed. Blocking settings can reject selected numbers, withheld numbers and unknown callers in bitCaller.
Report a problem
- In Settings, open the app information section and select the option to report a problem.
- Describe what happened and when. Do not include passwords, setup codes or other people’s private information.
- Review the full report before sending.
- Choose the email option and confirm sending in your mail app. bitCaller does not send reports in the background.
